Volunteer: Chicago South Suburbs Build Site Volunteer

We Can Build It!

DuPage and Chicago South Suburbs Habitat for Humanity is part of a global, nonprofit housing organization that seeks to put God’s love into action by building homes, communities, and hope. Join Habitat on the construction site to work side-by-side with future homebuyers to build and rehab homes for their families. We are currently rehabbing homes in Park Forest. If you have court-related community service hours to fulfill, please reach out to the Volunteer Manager by calling 630-757-7523 or email amercer@gohabitat.org. We will not verify any hours completed until after you have been approved.

Volunteer activities can include anything it takes to build a home from start to finish. Typical volunteer activities include framing, siding, painting, roofing, laying flooring, hanging doors or windows, trim work, finishing, landscaping, and cleaning. We mean it when we say – every single task is critical for the success of our mission.

Habitat provides all the tools, building materials, and training for your volunteer day; no construction experience is needed.

In recognition of federal labor laws regarding children and the potential risk to children’s safety on a construction site, no one under the age of 16 is allowed on a construction site while construction is going on. Further, no one under the age of 18 should be allowed to do any ultra-hazardous activities, which include the use of power tools or motor vehicles, demolition, roofing or working from a height of six feet or more, or excavation operations.

The minimum age to volunteer is 16 years old. Volunteers who are 16 or 17 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian who will also be volunteering that day. All minors signing up will be prompted to provide their legal guardian's name and email address for a waiver to be sent for them to electronically sign. You don't have to pound nails to be part of providing safe, affordable, and decent housing in DuPage County and the Chicago South Suburbs.

ReStore volunteers bring new skills and build capacity to help provide discounted building materials and home goods to the community. DuPage and Chicago South Suburbs Habitat for Humanity uses funds raised by the ReStore to help families build, rehabilitate and repair homes. By giving your time and talents, you help the Addison ReStore do more to support homebuilding projects that benefit families in the area. If you have court-related community service hours to fulfill, please reach out to the Volunteer Manager by calling 630-757-7523 or email amercer@gohabitat.org. We will not verify any hours completed until after you have been approved.

The minimum age to volunteer is 16 years old. All minors signing up will be prompted to provide their legal guardian's name and email address for a waiver to be sent for them to electronically sign. Once signed, the minor can finish registering for their volunteer shift.

Volunteer needs at the Addison ReStore may vary, but the following are common ways that you can help:

Assembling pack furniture/cabinets Assisting ReStore employees in maintaining a clean and attractive store Customer service Loading and unloading vehicles  Sorting and preparing donations to go on the salesfloor Photographing and categorizing products for our e-commerce site Organizing displays on salesfloor

Please wear closed-toe shoes.

All volunteers should schedule through Amplify 24 hours in advance. If you have any questions, please contact Aaryanna Mercer at mstokes@gohabitat.org.
